Welcome to the world of blogging

I've been wanting to publish a blog for over a year, and always felt too swamped to get started. I'm finally taking the plunge. I figure this will be a great way to stay in touch with all of my clients/friends. In my blog I'll share recent sessions and professional news, as well as personal stuff.

Since I'm going to share some personal things too, I will start with some terribly sad news. My best friend from childhood died during childbirth on June 23. Jennifer was a midwife in Florida. She experienced birthing pains on June 21 and went to her birthing center. She was taken to the hospital with severe signs of pre-eclampsia. She lost consciousness on the way to the OR to have an emergency C-section. She never regained consciousness. Jennifer was kept on life support for two days so that she could be an organ donor.

Lila Jennifer was born healthy and is doing well.

I can find no rhyme or reason in all of this. Jennifer was in a loving relationship and was happier than she'd ever been. She was dedicated to making the world a better place, an attitude that was reflected in everything she did - from managing a health food store years ago and her care for the environment, to her work as a midwife.

Jennifer and I had a tumultuous relationship. I loved her with all my heart and felt protective of her always; but I couldn't always be the friend she wanted me to be. We had falling out about a year ago and hadn't spoken since. I hope she knew how much I loved her, and still do...

(That's Jennifer on the right, and me on the left, back in 1978 and in 1989.)

Great to see you tonight, and to understand so much more about you and your talent. Your relating of your friend's sad death, and the open nature of your post reflect your own openess and candor. Your photography does so also, and contributes to the beauty of your work by allowing you to connect with your subjects. I wish you only the best.
